In 1978, I began my 4-year apprenticeship as a Traditional Signwriter in Coffs Harbour.

Back then, there were no computers, vinyl cutting plotters, digital printers, or adhesive vinyl. The tools of the trade were brushes, paints, a mahl stick, chalk, and a ladder. It took years to perfect the skill of hand-drawing perfect letter styles. These skills, honed during my apprenticeship, are still invaluable for creating signs today. They ensure a balanced, professional, and high-quality result, even as the tools have evolved.

At Signwise, we stay up-to-date with the latest signage equipment and technology. Despite these advancements, the term “Signwriter” has become loosely used, and most companies today might be better described as “Signmakers.”

In 1996, armed with vast knowledge and experience, Jacqui and I opened Signwise Signs. We are proud to be a small, family-run business with a focus on offering personalised advice and service to our customers. Our core values have always been to produce quality signs, provide excellent service, maintain realistic costs, and build long-term relationships with our clients.

We have always been a “One Stop Sign Shop,” providing everything sign-wise from design to in-house manufacturing and installation.
